Hatırlamanın Ağırlığı
Bu fotoğraflar, Auschwitz
ve Birkenau’da sınır kavramının nasıl mutlak ve geri dönülmez bir yapıya
dönüştüğünü gösteriyor. Raylar, tel örgüler ve mimari düzen, yalnızca
düzenleyen, ayıran değil; insanları zorla belirlenmiş bir sona doğru
yönlendiren görünmez bir eşik işlevi görüyor. Ayakkabı yığınları ise artık
sahipleri olmayan nesneler olarak, sınırların coğrafi olmaktan çıkıp
bedenlere, hafızaya ve yokluğa kazındığını hissettiriyor. Fotoğrafların
oluşturduğu sınır ise: Tarihsel şiddeti estetize etmeden, neyle yüzleştiğimizi
hatırlatan bir bakış alanı açıyor. Böylece sınır, hem mekânsal hem etik bir
mesele olarak karşımıza çıkıyor.
The Weight of Remembrance
These photos demonstrate
how the concept of border has transformed into an absolute and irreversible
structure in Auschwitz and Birkenau. Rails, wire fences and architectural order
function as an invisible doorstep which not only regulates and separates, but
also directs the humans towards an end imposed for them by force. Heaps of
shoes, as objects not having any owner anymore, make one feel that the borders
have gone beyond being a geographical term and have already been engraved into
bodies, memory and nonexistence. And the
border created by these photographs opens up a field of view reminding us with
what we are standing face to face thereat, without ever aestheticising the
violence. Thus, border appears before us as a both spatial and ethical problem.
The suggested photos were created using
photomontage in Photoshop from a series of photos taken with cell phone and SLR
digital camera in 2025.
