CYBELE AND HER CHILDREN

The mother goddess cult is a part of many cultures of the humanity, and it generally represents plentitude and fertility.

That small “sitting woman” statute from Çatalhöyük has always impressed me very much. And some of my works carry the traces of Cybele and some other mysterious women statuettes of Anatolia.

Due to the wars of our modern times, hundreds of thousands of people are escaping from where they live… And therefore there are millions of refugees in my country and in Europe. This means to say that to be a refugee sometime in our future is a probability for all of us…  Thus, we are children of Cybele.

In my “Cybele and Her Children” project, I wrapped my models by aluminum folio. The brightness of aluminum, and metallic atmosphere of the material give them an impression as if they have come from another earth. And what’s more they are almost providing Cybele with sacredness and godhood.

My model for Cybele was my dear friend Türkan Elçi, and we prepared her as a model together my friend Hilal Turşoluk. And baby dolls acted as my children models. 

KİBELE

Ana tanrıça kültü bir çok kültürde var. Genellikle bereketi ve doğurganlığı simgeler.

Çatalhöyük’ten çıkarılan o küçük “oturan kadın” heykeli beni her zaman çok etkilemiştir. Bazı çalışmalarımda onun ve Anadolu’nun  gizemli kadın heykelciklerinin izleri vardır.

Bizler Kibele’nin çocuklarıyız. Güncel savaşlar sonucu yüzbinlerce insan yaşadıkları yerlerden kaçıyor. Ülkemde ve Avrupa’da milyonlarca mülteci var. Mülteci olmak hepimiz için bir ihtimal..

“Kibele ve Çocukları” projemde modellerimi alüminyum folyo ile sardım.  Alüminyumun parlaklığı, malzemenin metal havası onlara başka dünyadan gelmişler izlenimi veriyor. Kibele’ye kutsallık katıyor.

Kibele için modelim sevgili arkadaşım Türkan Elçi oldu. Onu Hilal Turşoluk arkadaşımla beraber hazırladık. Oyuncak et bebekler de çocuk modellerim oldu. 2016
